Bed and Breakfast in Queensland
Bed and breakfast offers great accommodation, wonderful breakfasts and terrific value for the
backpacking visitor to Australia.
This good value comes down to the distinctive quality of the hosts, who usually offer something
beyond normal customer service and are friendly and helpful in all areas of travel information.
Homestay
The most common bed and breakfast accommodation in Australia is in private homes and you are integrated
into the household as if one of the family. Bed and breakfast is included in your stay, and some hosts can
provide other meals.
Your hosts take delight in sharing their local knowledge with you, and their motivation is to ensure
that your stay is a pleasant and memorable part of your backpacking holiday.
Cottage
The cottage is usually self catering, self contained accommodation ideal for budget travel in Queensland.
The cottages might be on farms or in the country, perhaps in out of the way places. The host may live
nearby but not always.
There are cooking facilities and household appliances as you would expect in a small house, and often
breakfast provisions are part of the tariff although the preparation left to the guest. Usually the
guest is expected to bring food for meals other than breakfast.
Farmstay
Some bed and breakfast accommodation is on rural properties, and these can be the ultimate way to see Queensland
for the budget travel tourist. The service is similar to a homestay, but on farm, and it is likely that as well
as breakfast other meals may be provided because of the relatively remote location.
The most significant difference is that there may be opportunities for some involvement in the operation
of a substantial working property, and you would need to check the travel information for this type of
holiday before booking.
The accommodation may vary and will probably be separate from the farm house, but there is generally a
feeling of inclusion in the daily routine of the farm.
